I was looking back for my previous “favorite books of the year” posts before writing this one, just to see, and realized that apparently I didn’t even start it until last year (2018)! So I guess I won’t be trying to post any “best of the decade” lists, because I just know, without anything to guide me (like yearly top tens to help narrow it down), I’ll end up missing something really important and feel awful about it. There’s some I know off the top of my head, but that’s just too nebulous for my personality. So, long story short, you aren’t getting that from me, haha.
BUT, I can at least provide you with a list of my Top 10 Favorite Books from 2019. There’s no rules to this for me, it’s anything goes as far as genre and publication year, etc. – as long as I personally read it in 2019. (Well, there’re no rules, but there is one caveat, I couldn’t pick a Top Ten fiction and nonfiction combined, so I have nonfiction “Honorary” Top Ten additions. So, just bear with me there.)
And now, without further ado, here’s the list! In no particular order, with the exception of the first two, which were definitely my two favorites. (*Note: all listed books are linked back to my original reviews, so you can check out more details on what I loved about them, if you’re so inclined.)
Top Ten Fiction of 2019
The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston
Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata
Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Sabrina & Corina by Kali Fajardo-Anstine
I never did get to read Daisy Jones last year, which makes me sad. Hopefully I can squeeze it in this year😁

Yes! It’s a really fast one, so it shouldn’t be too hard to fit in. And I’ve heard the audio version is fantastic, if that helps you fit it in. Good luck!

I really liked Good Talk, but I still need to read Becoming. LOVED Red, White, and Royal Blue. And I finally own Daisy Jones and hope to read that soon.

Yes – I think it went a little under the radar. But it was just such a fascinating and unique character and cultural portrait. And it’s really stuck with me. Glad you enjoyed it as well!

Hahaha I’ve definitely been there. I actually listened to the audiobook, which she reads herself, and really enjoyed that.

I’m going to need to add some of these to my TBR because I always love your suggestions but I’ve only read one of these!

Oh thank you so much! ❤️ What’s the one that you have read? Did you like it? Also, I’d love to hear what you think of any that end up on your TBR!
